Food safety and animal health

The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe) is a public veterinary Institute which conducts prevention, control and research activities in three main areas: animal health and welfare, food safety, and environmental protection.
The Institute employs almost 600 people, including veterinarians, biologists, chemists, technicians and administration staff.
The IZSVe is part of a national network that consists of nine other Italian public veterinary institutes, each of which covers a specific geographical area. Today, the IZSVe is located at Legnaro (PD), in northeast Italy and it has ten peripheral laboratories.

Study of protocols for the reduction of pathogenic microorganisms contamination in fresh vegetables.

What we offer

We have a research project with the aim to experimentally evaluate the effectiveness of different methods of fresh vegetables treatment, distinguishing among domestic, industrial and catering level, whose application could eliminate or reduce the charge of pathogenic microorganisms that may be present in the products. We are studing active packaging with bacteriocins and essential oils to reduce or eliminate the growth of pathogens during shelf life.

What we are looking for

We are looking for other research institutes or private companies in order to have collaboration for our research project. We are interested on knowledge of innovative methods for decontamination of fresh vegetables and also about innovative packaging systems to improve shelf life of convenience foods.
